Administrative/Biographical History
John Penn Brock was born in Lebanon, Pa. in 1879. The only son of Horace and Deborah Norris Coleman Brock, he attended Yale University (Class of 1900) and returned to Lebanon where he became a prominent figure in iron and steel manufacturing. He served as vice-president of the American Iron and Steel Manufacturing Company and as an executive of the Bethlehem Steel Company. Brock died in Rome, Italy in 1928.
Scope and Content
This small collection contains documents relating to the estate of John Penn Brock and miscellaneous papers relating to the Brock family. The bulk of the collection is correspondence between Pauline Biddle Brock and attorneys Charles Sinkler and H. Rank Bickel concerning financial and legal matters of the estate. The collection also includes additional correspondence, Lebanon County Orphans Court documents, resolutions issued by organizations and businesses upon Brock's death, death notice and obituary newspaper clippings, copies of Brock's will, deed agreements and a driver's permit for Pauline Biddle Brock. Among the additional correspondence are several letters from Brock's lifetime including several concerning his resignation from the Pennsylvania Steel Company in 1907, the construction of the Brock home in Lebanon in 1909 and a latter certifying the appointment of Deborah Norris Coleman Brock to the Board of Managers of the Good Samaritan Hospital (Lebanon, Pa.) in 1893.
